JUST IN!!!! 2019 Presidential Race Commences in Earnest

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the race for 2019 presidential elections has commenced in earnest with the visit of Atiku Abubakar to APC National Chairman ostensibly to hint him of his ambition. If APC is as audacious in political folly as PDP to tell the man there is no vacancy in Aso Rock come 2019, watch out for the political tsunami that will hit that party. There are interesting times ahead.

Press reports monitored in Abuja indicate that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a bid to kick start his presidential ambition paid a well publicized and unscheduled visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Monday, July 18, 2016. It is instructive to note that Atiku Abubakar has not visited the APC national secretariat since the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari also in attendance.

Media reports indicate that the politician entered the national secretariat at 12:50 pm without prior announcement or appointment.  He is reported to have been accompanied by the Adamawa state Governor, Mohammed Bindow Jibrila on the visit. A very clear political statement poignantly made with the company of the Governor. Reports say, they both walked straight to the National Chairman’s office.

The meeting took place behind closed doors for less than half an hour and the press was left guessing and speculating. When you juxtapose these events with the recent statement credited to Atiku Abubakar that Nigeria should be restructured, you must think of events leading to 2019 presidential elections. More so when you factor in that the official position of his party APC is not in support of restructuring Nigeria at the moment. These are interesting times indeed for Nigerian politics.
