Scientists have discovered that Gorillas exhibit emotions very similar to humans. Captioned above is a heart-wrenching photo which shows a Park Ranger sitting and quietly comforting a young gorilla. The story says the young Gorilla was being comforted by the Park Ranger because he had just lost his mother to poachers.
The Park Ranger named Patrick Karabaranga curiously also looks as dejected as the young gorilla in the said picture. It is not difficult to guess what is going on in the Ranger’s mind. It may not be unconnected with the fact that the Ranger may be feeling that he and his colleagues probably failed to give adequate protection to the Gorillas, a reason the poachers succeeded in making a kill. That is besides the fact that most Rangers routinely put their own lives on the line daily to protect these beautiful creatures.
The Ranger, Patrick Karabaranga can be seen here sitting with the orphaned mountain gorilla in Virunga National Park in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo while the young Gorilla appears to be showing his appreciation for the sympathy by tenderly placing his hand on the Ranger’s leg. Quite a touching scene if you ask me.
Credible park reports indicate that this Gorilla is one of three orphans living in the sanctuary. They had to be brought in after their parents were killed, either by poachers or as a result of illegal attempts by animal traffickers to smuggle them out of the park. Virunga National Park is now home to just more than 200 mountain Gorillas. That figure accounts for about a quarter of the world’s mountain Gorilla population. That number is still daily threatened by mindless and extremely greedy poachers. For these endangered mountain Gorillas, the race for survival is a very emotional one. The young Gorilla here who just lost his mother to poachers portrays that emotional story very vividly.
